Hummingbirds' Favorite Feeder
Review Date: August 3, 2000

I have three of these feeders on my front porch now and am thinking of purchasing three more because they seem to be my hummingbirds' favorite feeders. During the months of August and September each year we have between 70 and 100 hummingbirds at one time coming to 15 different types of feeders hanging on our front porch. The Perky Pet 209 30-oz. feeders always seem to be the ones the birds go for first. I also like them because they are large but easy to handle when filling and easy to clean. Other advantages: glass instead of plastic seems to keep the sugar water fresher longer; bee guards are built in and don't fall out; circular perch stays put and doesn't require adjustment. I've tried all kinds of hummingbird feeders and I think this one is the best.
Great feeder!

Watch Video Here: A great feeder. Never any problems. It's not hard to keep clean unless you let the mixture go rancid. Buy bottle brushes when you get this or you'll struggle to clean it, if the mixture goes bad. Our birds will go through this in 1 week!
This is just a couple minutes of video. They'll allow me to stand about a foot away from the feeder and still drink. It's great for pictures. These little guys are really aggressive (Rufous) and one sounds like a tiny version of the Jetson's spaceship. You can hear these guys all day. If you like peace and quiet, don't get a feeder if you live in Colorado and have these guys around. All day the kids, 4 and 6, are getting their books out to read about the birds. Go to hummingbirds dot net to find out about proper cleaning and mixture. What's real funny is watching all the "regular birds" trying to get something from this like the hummers. They're all learning to hover real well.
Feeding hummingbirds

Since I have used this feeder for many years, I ordered three new ones. The glass construction is the best, because the glass does not cloud up like plastic does. The size is great because we have a lot of hummingbirds in our desert home area, and the liquid food goes fast. I refill once a week, and refrain from filling it to the top, in order to not waste. I have tried other feeders through the years, but this is the best.
Best hummer feeder by far
Review Date: May 9, 2007
Reviewer: J. Phipps,
This is the best hummingbird feeder if you have lots of hummers. That's because of the high capacity. Also, I absolutely disagree that you cannot or should not use bleach to clean a hummingbird feeder. Actually that's the way to go. Been doing it for 10 years, and never lost any hummers. You just have to be careful to not use too strong a solution, and rinse it well and let it dry before using. [...]
With such a high capacity, and six stations, this feeder is the best. Just be SURE to mount securely, as it WILL break if it falls on a hard surface (remember that high winds can take it down)!
Perkey Pet 209 30 oz hummingbird feeder

Reviewer: hummingbird slave,
This hummingbird feeder is by far the best we have ever used. We use six feeders filled 2 x per day. Needless to say we have a great multitude of piggish hummingbirds. We have been using this feeder for over 12 years. To clean the feeder base of algae, we use a large bucket filled with water mixed with about 1/2 cup of bleach and let it soak overnight. Make certain you rinse very well, let dry and cannot smell any clorine before re-use. We also wash the feeder after the clorine treatment. To retard the algae growth and to discourage bees from being attracted to the feeder, we wash the feeder after every use totally submerged with water and dishwashing soap [dawn]...We allow it to soak overnight and rinse very well [no more bubbles in the base or glass holder]with hot water before use.

I absolutely love this hummingbird feeder. It does not fade, and the capacity is just right for the number of hummingbirds we feed.

good price for well-known item.
If you don't want to clear it with bleach.
Roll up 1/2 sheet of paper towel.
Slide it in with soap and water, shake and spin the towel around the inside of the feeder well.
Rinse several times; as you spin the water around the towel should be easy to grab and pull out.
Perky Pet 30 oz feeder

Size matters. This is the largest feeder I have yet to find. I mix up one cup of sugar in 30 oz of boiled water in a mayonnaise jar (6 at a time, actually) and fill my six feeders every day. They only need to be cleaned thoroughly about every 10 fillings. For that I use a bottle brush I got from a laboratory supply company. Same for base. If you let the feeders go empty for more than a few hours they will get yucky, sticky, and need more frequent cleanings. And, if you don't head off the ants at the pass you will have even a bigger mess. These problems plague all feeders I have ever owned. The 30 oz Perky Pet is the only one I use now. I am told that I have about 120-150 birds feeding on my six feeders. I would say that those people who don't have enough time to properly care for their feeders shouldn't tempt the birds. Who are they doing this for, anyway...the birds or themselves? Hope they don't have babies and then leave their diapers unchanged for two or three days. shame shame, no no

Wonderful feeder! Very durable and the large size enables fewer fills.
I have had one (of three) for many years and it hasn't shown any wear though it hangs in full sun all summer long.
Pleasantly Surprised

Thought the price was "too good"...had to be a catch BUT I was pleasantly surprised by the purchase being exactly what it was supposed to be at an excellent price. All four hummingbird feeders arrived in perfect condition which I was concerned about after reading reviews about this particular problem with the seller but NOT A PROBLEM at all. All four feeders were in their original boxes and packed in a box with some cushioning around them so they arrived unbroken. I recommend this product and the seller from my good experience with them.
