Question by Mikey: My Hill Myna bird keeps making up lies and stuff about me. How do I get it to stop?
My girlfriend thinks I’m sleeping around because my stupid bird keeps calling me “man-slut” and “chick-grabber”. At least that’s what the words sound like. How can I train my bird to stop this behavior?

These pets are also attracted to anything that is colorful and bright. They also like and need to figure things out. So one thing you can try is to put some colorful objects in a bottle and let them figure out how to open the bottle and get everything out. Birds even like playing with toilet paper rolls.

How often are you impacted by wildlife? Are the squirrels making themselves at home?

Question by Craptacular Wonderment: How often are you impacted by wildlife? Are the squirrels making themselves at home?
Or are the rabbits eating your garden?

Are the raccoons getting into your trash bins?
Maybe skunks or Opossums eating from your bird feeders?
Do you welcome them or try harder to keep their presense unknown?

Best answer:

Answer by Ret. Sgt.
My wife dearly loves all stray animals. So,she puts cat food out and then is surprised when possums and raccoons show up. She got kinda broke of this habit when the neighbor scared a coon under his deck and it ran right at my wife. She almost cleared the 6 ft fence and got into the swimming pool but not quite.

She also complained of seeing a very large smiling rat on the deck eating the cat food. ( this would be the possum). She expressed surprise at having a downspout loosened from the house and my finding coon crap on our roof ( conveniently close to the cat food)

If you dont feed them, they will not come. I have bird feeders and a corn squirrel feeder but tend to remember that it is only for bad weather and winter. You feed them year around and you might as well claim them as dependents because they will be.

I use chicken wire around my garden but some items rabbits wont eat. Hot peppers, tomatoes and some herbs. Keeping deer out of the garden may be harder.

Have all these problems where I live and we are not out in the country. We are far southwest Chicago suburbs.

Why are people with bird feeders so concerned with making sure birds are the only things that can access them?

Question by G: Why are people with bird feeders so concerned with making sure birds are the only things that can access them?
I keep seeing all these squirrel-proof bird feeders. Yes, granted that they are BIRD feeders, food is food, and when you toss food outdoors where countless animals roam about, what makes people think birds deserve the food more than any other animal? Is there any valid reason, or do pro-bird people just arbitrarily hate squirrels?

Answer by Gabby
squirrels are annoying and very territorial, once they invade your backyard (or front yard) they can be quite the pests, but i agree with you 100%

Q&A: Would you buy a hand made bird nest to use as decoration or in making crafts?

Question by Sabbathkeeper: Would you buy a hand made bird nest to use as decoration or in making crafts?
I made one from vines to use in the yard to put bird nesting material in. It looks similar to a real bird nest, and I thought I might be able to sell some. I am a disabled veteran, and I need something I can do at home to make a little extra money. Would they sell better if I put fake bird’s eggs in them? I thought I might make fake eggs out of paper marche and do them as different types of birds’ eggs.

These may sell at Easter but I do not think they would have a big market at any other time.

Making of The Dark Side of the Moon – Pink Floyd – Part 2/5

The most phenomenal recording in rock & roll history: The Dark Side of the Moon. The Floyd’s 1973 masterpiece remained on bestseller charts for nearly 14 years, and its enduring importance is honored here by all four members of Pink Floyd and key personnel (engineer Alan Parsons, mixing supervisor Chris Thomas, sleeve designer Storm Thorgerson, and others) who played essential roles in the landmark album’s creation. Produced for the Classic Albums series that originally aired on VH-1, this thorough and thought-provoking study highlights a track-by-track dissection of the LP’s master tapes (including the spoken-word passages that bookend the album), superbly interlaced with archival footage, early demo tapes, concert animations, and latter-day acoustic performances by David Gilmour, Roger Waters, and Richard Wright to demonstrate each track’s contribution to the final mix–a sonic exploration that extends to the illuminating bonus features. Informative interviews abound (including Rolling Stone senior editor David Fricke), and much-deserved credit is given to saxophonist Dick Parry, solo vocalist Clare Torry, and former Capitol Records chairman Bhaskar Menon, who fostered the album’s US commercial success.

I’m making a project for my garden and need help?

Question by HappyGirl: I’m making a project for my garden and need help?
I’m planning on making a bird bath and garden stepping stones and need to know what to use for the grout in between the mosaic stones and glass.
I have some tile grout to use on the bottom as the adhesive to stick the stones and glass in, but what do I need to use to “grout” in between. I want the end result to be smooth. Can you picture what I’m talking about?
Of course the birdbath will have water in it, so I need something that will last being submerged in water, can I use silicone? I also want this to be bird friendly and not toxic.
Thanks for any help and ideas.

Mortar between the stones. Much like you do patios, a little water to harden it – after it hardens – water makes it stronger.

What precautions can i take when making a vegetable garden in soil in an area known for lead pollution?

Question by Nicholas: What precautions can i take when making a vegetable garden in soil in an area known for lead pollution?
I was thinking a raised garden bed with plastic sheet with holes punched in separating the soils. I would then add store bought soil and manure. Anyone got any other tips or sites i can check out? Cheers!
to rgdet, how about if i dug about 50 – 100 cm and replaced the soil in and at about a 40 cm perimeter around and then added the plastic sheeting and raised garden?

Ill look into containers now, i like the idea of plant bags !

Best answer:

Answer by rgdet
that’s good, but the roots could still get through and absorb lead.
how about using containers? I did a container vegetable garden last year for similar reasons and it worked out well. Some things I used: half barrels, a 4×4 wooden container on legs, lots of 5 gallon food grade buckets (free from grocery stores). I grew beans, lots of zucchini, squash, tomatoes, herbs, blueberries, raspberries, brussels sprouts, and a bunch of other things.
there is a book about vegatable container gardening (don’t have the title right now) and another great book called square foot gardening that can help out.
can’t wait for spring!
good luck!
