Answer by Sloeloris
Try hanging feeders. They’re quite cheap to buy, and smaller birds prefer them to ground-scattered seeds. Works for us.

(Also, lol! Yahoo Answers won’t let you say blue tits!)

Q&A: Atlanta GA lawn and garden store?

Question by Soul-Unleashed: Atlanta GA lawn and garden store?
I want to shop around for a bird feeder. What type of stores sell a good variety? I live in Atlanta, GA.
When i lived in upstate NY, we had a lawn & garden chain called “CountryMax”, which catered to lawn garden, and pet supplies. They had a great selection of feeders and seed.
ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Best answer:

Answer by A F
Pike Nurseries probably has some nice ones, Ace Hardware had some nice but basic ones when I was last there along w/ a variety of seed. I have an inexpensive one from WallMart but they have nicer ones too. The birds seem pretty satisfied with the one we have plus seed bells. They also have several different kinds of seeds.

A scarecrow only works until the birds get used to it. There isn’t anyway I know of to stop the birds from singing when the sun rises. You might try wearing those foam ear plugs.

How do I start a vegetable and herb garden?

Question by Maria Gallercia: How do I start a vegetable and herb garden?
I reside in North Central Florida, and I have five acres of land. How can I start a vegetable and herb garden? What should be included? Etc. Thank you in advance.

Answer by breadvanfullofmonkies2002
You first need to till your land that you want to plant your garden on…..then you need to buy miracle grow vegetable and flower soil it feeds up to three months..you can do a 12x 12 garden and buy like 5 bags at 6 dollars each and what you do is pour it onto the soil you just tilled and then mix it in….which you can till it again to do this. After that you need to put up stakes at the end of each row and run a fishing line or anykind of string so your rows will be straight or either you can do freestyle and do it the straightest you can get it. I planted corn (needs to be planted 2-3 seeds in each hole…6inches deep…6inches apart) after they sprout at about a foot high pick the strongest sprout and do away with the weakest. Cucumbers 2-3 seeds in a 3 inch hole 6 inches apart. Squash the same way. Watermelons 5-6 seeds in hole 5 feet apart because the vines grow so long. Carrots and raddishes are the easiest to grow…put several tiny seeds in a just under the soil hole and they sprout within two weeks. Most seeds will sprout within two weeks. I fertialize weekly and water once in the morning and once at night after the sun isnt high because it will burn your plants up. Buying herbs already started in little planters and transplanting them into your garden is easiest or i put my vegetables in the garden and grow my herbs in the window seal. Hope this info helps. Ive been gardening and farming for years.

Why is my vegetable garden turning from deep green to pale light green? How do I fix it?

Question by gardengirl: Why is my vegetable garden turning from deep green to pale light green? How do I fix it?
Planted in my garden are eggplants, zuccini, yellow crooked neck squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, bell peppers, cayenne peppers, green onions, and sunflowers. Not all of my plants are changing colors, and the ones that are turning colors are not next to each other. Some are on opposite sides of the garden, that’s why I think it is something in the soil. I can’t find the answer to this problem ANYWHERE!!!!!

too much water, not enough sun. overwatering is a natural response when your garden is not doing well.

When building a veggie garden is it okay to use treated lumber?

Question by peterkolozvary: When building a veggie garden is it okay to use treated lumber?
My neighbor says to use railroad ties but those might not fit with our look in the backyard. I was thinking more along the lines of some 2×6′s that are pre-treated to prevent rotting. Will this affect the chemicals that enter the soil? Are they dangerous? Does anyone have any good links to help with the building and prep work for a new veggie garden?

I’m think of making four 4×4 squares for the garden. Any tips would be great.

Best answer:

Answer by Kacky
Unfortunately, they are dangerous. The treatment will leach into the soil and it’s poisonous. And un-treated RR ties often bring termites. I like this site for planning advice:
